Frequently asked questions

ABS module repair, answered
How do I know the ABS module is the problem?
Check the cheap causes first: battery voltage, the ABS fuses, ground straps, the module connector and — for wheel-speed codes — the sensors and their wiring. If those are good and the codes return as soon as they are cleared, or a scan tool cannot talk to the ABS module at all, the module is the likely cause. Our fault-code pages list what each code means on each vehicle. Not sure? Send us the codes, a photo of the module label and your VIN before you pull anything. Asking costs nothing.
What if it cannot be repaired?
If your module cannot be repaired, we tell you before doing anything else. You choose: a replacement — a refurbished unit of the same family with your data cloned onto it, from $950 (you pay only the difference from what you already paid, and we confirm it first) — or your module back with the repair price refunded minus shipping costs.
What exactly do I send?
It depends on the unit. On many Bosch, Continental (ATE), Kelsey-Hayes and TRW units the electronic control module unbolts from the pump and valve block, so the brake lines stay on the car. Advics, Toyota/Lexus and Nissan/Infiniti brake actuators and Honda/Acura VSA modulators are one assembly. Your vehicle page names your unit — if you are not sure what comes out, send us a photo first and we confirm before you pull anything.
Do I have to remove it myself?
No. A shop can pull it for you; you just pack and ship it with our prepaid label. On some units only the electronic control module comes off; on others it is one assembly — send us a photo if you are not sure.
Does the module need programming or a dealer visit afterwards?
No dealer visit for coding. A repaired module is your own module, so it keeps your VIN and coding; a refurbished unit is written with the data read from your original before it ships. After installing, clear the stored codes and run the checks your scan tool calls for — some vehicles also want a brake bleed or a sensor calibration.
How long does it take?
About a week on the bench once the module arrives, plus shipping both ways. Need it sooner? Rush repair (+$100) targets 2–3 business days on the bench, and you can choose 2-day ($54.95) or overnight ($94.95) return shipping.
Is $499 really the price?
It’s the starting price for the repair, charged at checkout, plus your return shipping. If the bench finds more work than your service covers, we tell you the cost first. You approve it, have the module returned, or cancel under our refund terms — nothing that changes the price happens without your OK.
How much is shipping?
The label to us is on us — we email it after payment. Return shipping: Standard $29.95 (3–5 business days); UPS 2nd Day Air $54.95 (2 business days); UPS Next Day Air $94.95 (Next business day).
What if it fails again?
Every repair and replacement carries a 1-year warranty on our work, from the day we ship it back. Want longer? Extend at checkout: 2 years +$50, 3 years +$100, 5 years +$150.
Why not buy a new one?
A new unit for many vehicles costs well over a thousand dollars for the part alone — your vehicle’s page shows the listed price when we have it. Repairing the one you own starts at $499 and comes back already coded to your VIN.
Why not just buy a used one online or from a salvage yard?
Many ABS modules carry the VIN and configuration of the vehicle they came from, so a used one can set codes or refuse to work. That is why a replacement from us is written with your own module’s data, tested on the bench, and carries a 1-year warranty.
Can you send me a replacement before I send mine?
No advance exchange: your original module has to reach the bench first, because your vehicle’s data (VIN, coding and configuration) is read out of it and written into the refurbished unit. That is what lets the refurbished module install like your own.
What happens to my original if I get a replacement?
We agree that with you, in writing, before the work starts.
I’ve never heard of you — what happens to my module in the mail?
Every order gets an RMA number and a prepaid, tracked label to our lab. You get an email when it arrives, when work starts, when it is done, and when it ships back with tracking, and your order link shows the status any time. Return shipping is insured at the service price. Our bench is at 1168 W Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, Texas, and our prices and terms are published before you order.
Do you work with repair shops?
Yes. Use the shop form on the quote page and we set you up; put your shop name on each order so it is easy to find. Shops get the same prepaid label, published prices and refund rules on every order.
