ABS Module Lab

Removing, packing and shipping your ABS module

Not comfortable working on brakes? A shop can pull it for you — then you just pack it and drop it off with our prepaid label. Not sure what comes out on your vehicle? Send us a photo first.

  1. 1

    Get your RMA first

Order online (or ask us first). The RMA number arrives by email, and the prepaid inbound label follows once payment clears.

  2. 2

    Disconnect the battery

Disconnect the negative battery cable before unplugging the module, and wait a few minutes. Never unplug a module with the key on.

  3. 3

Unplug and remove the control module

Release the connector lock and unplug it. What comes out depends on your unit. On many Bosch, Continental (ATE), Kelsey-Hayes and TRW units the electronic control module unbolts from the pump and valve block, so the brake lines stay connected. Advics, Toyota/Lexus and Nissan/Infiniti actuators and Honda/Acura VSA modulators are one assembly — send us a photo first and we confirm what to ship and how to cap the ports.

    Protect it

Put the module in an anti-static bag (or clean plastic bag) and cover the connector so the pins cannot bend. Do not open the module.

  5. A bagged module suspended in thick foam inside an open shipping box
    5

    Pack it

At least 2 inches of padding on every side — bubble wrap or foam, not loose newspaper — in a sturdy box. Nothing should move when you shake it.

    Label and ship

Write the RMA on the box and on a note inside, tape on the prepaid label, and drop it off. The label is already paid for and already addressed to us.

Write your RMA number on the outside of the box and include it on a note inside. UPS and FedEx cannot deliver to a PO Box, so couriers use the street form of the same box.

Before you drive without the module

Whether the vehicle can be driven while the module is out depends on what you remove — if the brake lines are opened, it cannot. Without the module it has no ABS or stability control and will show warning lights. Check your owner's manual; if in doubt, leave it parked until the module is back.

Not sure what you have? Look up the part number.

ABS light on? Fix the module you already own.

Look up your part number and order online — we email you a prepaid label to our lab. Or send us a photo of the label and your VIN first, and we'll tell you what you have and what it costs.
