What that means for your ABS module
High water: rule out a wet connector
Driving through standing water can push water into connectors and, on some vehicles, toward the ABS unit itself. If the light came on after a flooded drive, unplug the module connector and look for water or fresh corrosion first. Tell us about the water when you order, so the bench knows what to look for.
Heat: when the light comes and goes
An ABS module warms up and cools down on every drive, and long hot seasons add to that. Over years of heat cycling, solder joints inside the module can crack — the classic sign is a code that comes and goes, or a module that drops off the network once it is hot. That is board-level work — the kind we do on the bench.
Hawaii rules that matter for an ABS light
Hawaii inspection rules, and what they say about ABS.
Safety inspection
Hawaii requires a periodic motor vehicle safety inspection every twelve months. A new vehicle is inspected when first sold, and its yearly inspections start two years after that sale. source ↗
The ABS warning light
Hawaii's brake inspection rule (HAR 19-133.2-31) refuses a certificate if the brake pad wear warning light stays lit, or if the brake failure warning light does not go out when the parking brake is released. It does not mention the ABS warning lamp. source ↗
