Ohio at a glance

Ohio has no periodic safety inspection for most passenger cars — the ABS light is still a warning to act on.

Ohio inspection rules and the ABS light

Safety inspection

Ohio does not appear on the U.S. GAO's list of states that have required periodic vehicle safety inspections (1929-2015), and no newer program was found. source ↗

Emissions testing

The E-Check program covers seven counties: Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit. Under a law effective June 30, 2025, gasoline and diesel vehicles 6 to 25 years old (non-plug-in hybrids 7 to 25) up to 10,000 lb GVWR are tested every two years. source ↗

Winter roads in Ohio: check the wiring first

ODOT uses between 300,000 and 900,000 tons of salt each winter. Trucks wet rock salt with brine or calcium chloride as it is spread, and some trucks spray brine straight onto the road before storms (anti-icing). source ↗

Roads in Ohio get salt or brine in winter, and that is hard on ABS wiring. Corroded wheel-speed sensor connectors and harness damage along the frame can set the same lights as a failed module. Before you pull the module, look at the sensor plugs and the module connector for green corrosion or broken pins. If they are clean and the codes point at the module itself — or the scan tool cannot talk to it at all — mail it in.

Our promise

Can’t be repaired? You don’t pay for a repair.

If the bench finds your module past repair, we stop and tell you before doing anything else. Then you choose:

  1. 1A replacement — a refurbished unit of the same family with your VIN, coding and configuration cloned onto it, from $950. You pay only the difference from what you already paid, and we confirm the amount with you first.
  2. 2Your module back — with the repair price refunded, minus shipping costs.

Either way, nothing that changes your price happens without your OK.

My ABS light came on after winter. Is it the module?

Not always. Salt and slush corrode wheel-speed sensor connectors and wiring, and that sets ABS codes too. Clean, dry connectors and codes that point at the module (or no communication with it) mean the module is the likely cause.
