Known Mercedes-Benz ABS failures
What the sources report for these models, before anything else is replaced.
- 2001-2007 Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W203) C230/C240/C320/C350
A rebuilder lists loss of communication with the W203 ESP module and stored codes P2068, P20CC and P2036 (no or incorrect message from N47-5 ESP control unit). Mercedes Medic notes the brake light switch is 'the most common problem' behind BAS/ESP/ABS lights on cars like the C240 - rule it out first. source ↗
- 2010-2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W212) E350 / E550
A rebuilder: ESP light on with C46B000 (power supply to the solenoid valve is faulty) stored. source ↗
- 2003-2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan/wagon (W211/S211, pre-facelift)
The SBC hydraulic unit wears out by design: it counts brake actuations and logs C249F at roughly 300,000; failures progress from a grey 'Service Brake! Visit Workshop!' (backup mode) to a red brake warning, softer pedal and excessive pump noise. Bosch stopped producing SBC units around 2012, so there are no brand-new replacements. source ↗
- 1998-2005 Mercedes-Benz M-Class (W163) ML320 / ML350 / ML430 / ML500 / ML55 AMG
A rebuilder rebuilds the circuit board for solenoid error codes and intermittent operation, and replaces pump-motor brushes/bearings (recommended over 75,000 miles); before condemning the module, check the external pump relay K25 in the fuse panel and the ground behind the driver-side headlight, which can make the module appear bad. source ↗
- 2006-2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class (W164) ML320/ML350/ML550/ML63
A rebuilder lists no communication with the ABS module, all ABS warning lights on, speedometer not working and wheel-speed-sensor codes; when ABS pump codes are stored it directs customers to the module-and-pump repair. source ↗
- 2012-2019 Mercedes-Benz M-Class / GLE (W166)
A rebuilder lists all ABS warning lights on, speedometer not working, wheel-speed-sensor codes and communication issues for the W166 module. source ↗
