ABS module repair for Georgia drivers

ABS, traction or stability light on? Mail the module in from Atlanta, Augusta and Savannah or anywhere in Georgia with the prepaid label we email you. It comes back repaired and still coded to your VIN — or, if it is past repair, as a refurbished unit with your data cloned on.

Georgia at a glance

Georgia has no periodic safety inspection for most passenger cars — the ABS light is still a warning to act on.

Georgia inspection rules and the ABS light

Safety inspection

Georgia has no periodic safety inspection for passenger cars. It was not among the 16 states with periodic inspection programs in GAO's 2015 review. source ↗

Emissions testing

Emissions testing applies in 13 metro Atlanta counties: Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Paulding and Rockdale. The test is an OBD check of the emissions system plus a visual check of the catalytic converter. source ↗

Heat and humidity in Georgia

GDOT stocks salt, gravel, salt brine and calcium chloride for winter storms, and its dump trucks spread a salt and gravel mix on roads. source ↗

Under-hood electronics in Georgia live with heat and humidity. The ABS module sits next to the brake lines and warms up and cools down on every drive, and over the years that cycling can crack solder joints inside it. It shows up as codes that come and go, or a module that drops off the network when hot. That is board-level work — the kind we do on the bench.

Road salt: check the wiring before the module

Salt and brine work their way into the ABS system's wiring. Corroded wheel-speed sensor connectors, or a harness chafed along the frame, can set the same warning lights as a failed module. Before you pull the module, look at each sensor plug and at the module connector for green corrosion or broken pins. If they are clean and the codes point at the module itself — or a scan tool cannot talk to it — the module is the likely cause.

  2. 2Your module back — with the repair price refunded, minus shipping costs.
