ABS, traction or stability light on? Mail the module in from Houston, Dallas and San Antonio or anywhere in Texas with the prepaid label we email you. It comes back repaired and still coded to your VIN — or, if it is past repair, as a refurbished unit with your data cloned on.

Texas at a glance

Texas has no periodic safety inspection for most passenger cars — the ABS light is still a warning to act on.

Texas inspection rules and the ABS light

Safety inspection

Since January 1, 2025 (House Bill 3297), non-commercial vehicles no longer need a safety inspection before they are registered. Owners pay a $7.50 inspection program replacement fee with registration instead. Commercial vehicles still need a safety inspection. source ↗

Emissions testing

Gasoline vehicles from 2 to 24 years old that are registered in 17 counties (the Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin and El Paso areas) must pass an annual emissions inspection before registration can be renewed. Bexar County is scheduled to start on November 1, 2026. Diesel and electric vehicles are not tested. source ↗

Heat and humidity in Texas

TxDOT stockpiles salt, sand, chemical de-icers and liquid brine before winter, and can spray brine (salt and water) several days before a storm to keep ice from bonding to the road. source ↗

Under-hood electronics in Texas live with heat and humidity. The ABS module sits next to the brake lines and warms up and cools down on every drive, and over the years that cycling can crack solder joints inside it. It shows up as codes that come and go, or a module that drops off the network when hot. That is board-level work — the kind we do on the bench.

Road salt: check the wiring before the module

Salt and brine work their way into the ABS system's wiring. Corroded wheel-speed sensor connectors, or a harness chafed along the frame, can set the same warning lights as a failed module. Before you pull the module, look at each sensor plug and at the module connector for green corrosion or broken pins. If they are clean and the codes point at the module itself — or a scan tool cannot talk to it — the module is the likely cause.

Our promise

Can’t be repaired? You don’t pay for a repair.

If the bench finds your module past repair, we stop and tell you before doing anything else. Then you choose:

  1. 1A replacement — a refurbished unit of the same family with your VIN, coding and configuration cloned onto it, from $950. You pay only the difference from what you already paid, and we confirm the amount with you first.
  2. 2Your module back — with the repair price refunded, minus shipping costs.

Either way, nothing that changes your price happens without your OK.
