ABS module repair for Alaska drivers

ABS, traction or stability light on? Mail the module in from Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau or anywhere in Alaska with the prepaid label we email you. It comes back repaired and still coded to your VIN — or, if it is past repair, as a refurbished unit with your data cloned on.

Alaska at a glance

Alaska has no periodic safety inspection for most passenger cars — the ABS light is still a warning to act on.

Alaska inspection rules and the ABS light

Safety inspection

Alaska does not run a periodic safety inspection for passenger cars. It was not among the 16 states with periodic inspection programs in GAO's 2015 review. source ↗

Emissions testing

Alaska no longer tests vehicle emissions. EPA approved dropping Anchorage's inspection program as an active control measure in January 2012; it is kept only as a contingency measure. source ↗

Shipping from Alaska

Alaska DOT&PF (Northern Region) sprays salt brine on roads before storms as an anti-icer, and once snow builds up it sprays brine onto the sand it spreads. source ↗

Mail takes longer from Alaska than from the mainland states, so plan for transit both ways. The prepaid label we email still covers the trip to our bench, and you choose the return speed at checkout — 2-day or overnight shortens the wait on the way back.

Road salt: check the wiring before the module

Salt and brine work their way into the ABS system's wiring. Corroded wheel-speed sensor connectors, or a harness chafed along the frame, can set the same warning lights as a failed module. Before you pull the module, look at each sensor plug and at the module connector for green corrosion or broken pins. If they are clean and the codes point at the module itself — or a scan tool cannot talk to it — the module is the likely cause.

Our promise

Can’t be repaired? You don’t pay for a repair.

If the bench finds your module past repair, we stop and tell you before doing anything else. Then you choose:

  2. 2Your module back — with the repair price refunded, minus shipping costs.

Either way, nothing that changes your price happens without your OK.
