ABS module repair for Idaho drivers
ABS, traction or stability light on? Mail the module in from Boise, Nampa and Idaho Falls or anywhere in Idaho with the prepaid label we email you. It comes back repaired and still coded to your VIN — or, if it is past repair, as a refurbished unit with your data cloned on.
Idaho at a glance
Idaho has no periodic safety inspection for most passenger cars — the ABS light is still a warning to act on.
Idaho inspection rules and the ABS light
Safety inspection
Idaho has no periodic safety inspection for passenger cars. It was not among the 16 states with periodic inspection programs in GAO's 2015 review. source ↗
Emissions testing
Idaho no longer requires emissions testing. The Legislature repealed the state requirement for the Treasure Valley inspection programs in 2022, effective July 1, 2023, and EPA approved the removal for Ada County in 2023. source ↗
Winter roads in Idaho: check the wiring first
ITD runs more than 400 snowplows that clear and treat about 13,000 lane miles of state highway each winter. source ↗
Roads in Idaho get salt or brine in winter, and that is hard on ABS wiring. Corroded wheel-speed sensor connectors and harness damage along the frame can set the same lights as a failed module. Before you pull the module, look at the sensor plugs and the module connector for green corrosion or broken pins. If they are clean and the codes point at the module itself — or the scan tool cannot talk to it at all — mail it in.
Cold starts and the ABS light
Cold weather is hard on connectors and on a weak battery. Low voltage at start-up can set ABS codes on its own, so check the battery and the ABS fuses before blaming the module. If the codes come back on a healthy battery, or the module will not communicate, mail it in.

My ABS light came on after winter. Is it the module?
Not always. Salt and slush corrode wheel-speed sensor connectors and wiring, and that sets ABS codes too. Clean, dry connectors and codes that point at the module (or no communication with it) mean the module is the likely cause.
