ABS module repair for Nevada drivers

ABS, traction or stability light on? Mail the module in from Las Vegas, Henderson and Reno or anywhere in Nevada with the prepaid label we email you. It comes back repaired and still coded to your VIN — or, if it is past repair, as a refurbished unit with your data cloned on.

Nevada at a glance

Nevada has no periodic safety inspection for most passenger cars — the ABS light is still a warning to act on.

Nevada inspection rules and the ABS light

Safety inspection

Nevada does not appear on the U.S. GAO's list of states that have required periodic vehicle safety inspections (1929-2015), and no newer program was found. source ↗

Emissions testing

Vehicles based in the urban areas of Clark County (Las Vegas) and Washoe County (Reno) need an emissions test every year to renew registration. It covers gasoline vehicles 1968 and newer and diesels up to 14,000 lb GVWR; new vehicles are exempt for their first three registrations. 1996 and newer light-duty gasoline vehicles get an OBDII test, and the DMV brochure lists a lit check engine light as a failure for those vehicles. source ↗

Heat cycling in Nevada

NDOT uses a salt and water brine and other anti-icing agents, sprays brine before snowfall, and spreads sand and salt wetted with brine. source ↗

In Nevada the ABS module goes through wide temperature swings — a cool morning, a hot afternoon, a hot engine bay. Repeated heat cycling is one of the things that wears out solder joints inside the module, and the fault often starts as an intermittent code before it stays on. Board-level faults like that are what we work on at the bench.

Road salt: check the wiring before the module

Salt and brine work their way into the ABS system's wiring. Corroded wheel-speed sensor connectors, or a harness chafed along the frame, can set the same warning lights as a failed module. Before you pull the module, look at each sensor plug and at the module connector for green corrosion or broken pins. If they are clean and the codes point at the module itself — or a scan tool cannot talk to it — the module is the likely cause.

Can’t be repaired? You don’t pay for a repair.

If the bench finds your module past repair, we stop and tell you before doing anything else. Then you choose:

  2. 2Your module back — with the repair price refunded, minus shipping costs.

Either way, nothing that changes your price happens without your OK.
